Holistic Health and Wellbeing GA

The Alabama Model of Student Health and Wellbeing provides an understanding of student wellness that contributes to students’ academic and personal success as well as ways to support it. This graduate assistant position will work in conjunction with the Associate VP for Health and Wellbeing and Director of Strategic Planning and Assessment to analyze student data and better inform decision making in the Division related to the holistic health and wellbeing of our students. (Data Analytics & Assessment, Holistic Health and Wellbeing)

Professional Development GA

This graduate assistant position will work in conjunction with the Associate VP for Strategic Initiatives and Director of Professional Development to further the divisional priority of Investing in Staff. The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will vary but may include a focus on the staff experience, divisional initiatives such as Recognition and Appreciation, hiring and orienting new divisional staff, competency-based training and learning, and continuing education for staff and student employees. Due to the nature of this role, students majoring in Higher Education Administration or related programs will be given priority consideration.

Student Engagement GA

This position will work closely with the Office of Student Involvement and Office of Strategic Planning & Assessment to support the implementation of the REAL Tide program, our record of student engagement and learning. The GA will assist with the assessment and evaluation of the REAL TIDE implementation, identify areas of change or improvement, and work with staff and students on a successful implementation with an eye towards continuous improvement of the UA student experience. (Data Analytics & Assessment, Student Engagement & Involvement)

Student Leadership GA

This position will work with the Division of Student Life on strategic priorities and initiatives throughout the division. The GA will work with Divisional staff to identify and support emerging student and divisional needs throughout the year and implement programs, services, or interventions that help address gaps. Responsibilities will include both administrative duties with the VPSL Executive Council as well as contributions to developing leadership programming in Student Life at UA. (Higher Education Administration, Student Advisement, Student Engagement).

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a graduate degree program. Students majoring in Higher Education Administration or related programs will be given priority consideration.

Off-Campus Resources Graduate Assistant

Currently Filled; Expected to Accept Applications for Fall 2024.

The Off-Campus Resources graduate assistant will support the office of Off-Campus Resources in providing educational resources, information, and customer service to assist students/faculty/staff with resources and information regarding off-campus living around the University area.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage frequent content for Off-Campus Resources social media outlts
  • Create and assist with content (written/graphic/printed) and build departmental awareness for off-campus newsletters, websites, videos, educational resources, etc.
  • Assist with development, planning and marketing of events
  • Attend Off-Campus Resources events
  • Provide monthly reports of social media analytics
  • Assist with answering off-campus emails and phone calls
  • Assist with partnerships between Off-Campus Resources and off-campus properties/on-campus partners to identity opportunities for collaboration
  • Become familiar with the Alabama Landlord Tenant Act
  • Participate in necessary training
  • Assist with other projects and provide support to the Dean of Students office as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a graduate degree program and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • Students majoring in Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Studies, Marketing and Studio Art may be given priority consideration. Students majoring in other related fields will be considered.
  • Assistant needs to be able to attend outside events, specifically Housing Fairs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday of certain months, but will also work inside the Dean of Students suite located in the UA Student Center.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull items over 20 lbs.

Graduate Community Director

Responsibilities

Graduate Community Directors manage the day-to-day operations of a residential community and supervise student staff members in that community. Job duties include:

  • Directly supervise 5-16 student staff members.
  • Conduct regular supervisory meetings to provide mentoring, motivation and feedback to staff
  • Participate in student staff training and selection processes
  • Serve as a student conduct hearing officer for their community and meet with students who have violated the community living standards to provide educational interventions and referrals
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to issues, concerns or emergencies as they arise during or after business hours
  • Monitor maintenance and facilities issues, complete administrative paperwork and compile reports
  • Facilitate health and safety inspections and building occupancy verification processes
  • Respond to room change requests
  • Attend weekly staff meetings as well as monthly departmental and divisional meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a graduate degree program. Students majoring in Higher Education Administration or related programs will be given priority consideration.
  • Applicants must be able to live on-campus in assigned space/location.
  • Applicants must be able to work flexible schedule to accommodate needs of assigned community. Schedules vary; night, weekend and holiday hours will be required throughout the year.
  • Graduate Community Directors (GCDs) will be required to work at least 15 hours per week during business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday). They will also be required to schedule, post and hold consistent office hours for their assigned community within this time period. If your graduate degree program requires you to complete some type of practicum, internship or co-op that will not allow you to maintain 15 office hours a week during business hours, you may become ineligible for the GCD position.
  • This position is for a full academic year. Applicants with an anticipated December 2023 graduation date will not be eligible for this position.

Student Government Association Graduate Assistant

The Student Government Association (SGA) graduate assistant will assist the SGA Advisor and current grad assistant with special projects designed to enhance the student leader experience within SGA. Work will primarily take place in the SGA suite and the UA Student Center.

Responsibilities

  • Constitution, Code of Laws, and Elections Manual rewrites/edits and updates
  • Alumni database implementation
  • Historical document archives
  • Planning and executing mission critical events for the department (SGA elections, inauguration, SGA officer training retreat)
  • DEI Certification Program guidelines and learning outcomes

Sports Program Graduate Assistance

Filled until Fall of 2024.

The graduate assistant for sport programs will assist in the professional supervision of the Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs at The University of Alabama. An integral part of University Recreation, Sports Programs provides opportunities that foster health and well-being, learning, leadership, and inclusion for UA students and campus community.
Duties will include managing a comprehensive intramural sports program, assisting in scheduling of student staff, and serving as a liaison for multiple sport clubs. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating competitive sports programming in collaboration with Staff Coordinators, and at the direction of the Assistant Director for Sport Programs and Director for UREC Programs. The Assistant Director will determine an appropriate work schedule to ensure proper coverage of all events, which includes evening games and weekend activities.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and develop approximately 50-75 part-time student staff.
  • Assist in creating training programs that provide progressive student staff development and continuing education for Supervisors and Program Assistants.
  • Manage Sport Club administrative materials, including: Intent-to-Travel Forms, Activity Reports, Club Incentive Program and Reimbursement Requests.
  • Serve as a liaison for four to six Sport Clubs by providing leadership and mentoring to Sport Club officers and members.
  • Assist in creating officer-training programs that develop sound leadership, program knowledge and skills to successfully operate Sport Clubs as student-led organizations.
  • Collaborate with other University Recreation professionals for marketing, special events, facility reservations, assessment and other initiatives.
  • Utilize computer-based scheduling software and web-based programs to coordinate activities.
  • Continue professional development through membership in professional organizations, attending conferences and workshops, and staying current with trends, issues, and risk management pertinent to competitive sports-based activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working in campus recreation specifically with intramural sports, sport clubs, and/or competitive sports programming.
  • Experience officiating and extensive knowledge of sports rules.
  • Ability to work extended hours (nights and weekends) as needed. Weekly office hours and program coverage will be determined by program needs and supervisor.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license required. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain within first 30 days of employment.

Health Promotion and Wellness Graduate Assistant

Responsibilities

  • The graduate assistant assists with the daily operations of the 150+ member student organization, Project Health.
  • Assists with training, mentoring, supervising and providing professional development.
  • Oversees data interns.
  • Directly oversees data collection, processing, and evaluation of Project Health outreach.
  • Preferred Graduate Programs

Greek Assembly Hall Graduate Assistant

The Division of Student Life seeks candidates interested in a Graduate Assistantship for the 2023-2024 academic year to support the opening of Greek Assembly Hall.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the scheduling, logistics and set up for groups to most effectively utilize spaces in Greek Assembly Hall
  • In consultation with Student Involvement and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, approving details for student organization events that will be hosted in the space
  • Supervising undergraduate student staff in the operations of the building
  • coordinating with custodial services to ensure the space is maintained
  • recommending and implementing procedures and priorities for scheduling and most efficient use of Greek Assembly Hall
  • facilitating training, workshops and/or programming that would contribute to student organizations’ hosting of events and utilization of space
  • assisting student organizations in the planning, promotion (could include advertising and designing social media graphics) and execution of a variety of types of events (meetings, speakers, dinners, tailgates, etc.)

Preference will be given to students who are currently members of NPHC and/or UGC organizations.

The successful candidate will successfully demonstrate the ability to interact and communicate with various student organizations, campus partners and alumni to optimize the utilization of Greek Assembly Hall.

Hours will vary, based on events schedule in Greek Assembly Hall, but will total 20 hours per week.
