young Barbra standing in front of Tutwiler HallIn August of 1999, Barbra K. Green moved from Maryland to Tuscaloosa and found her new home at 901 Paul W. Bryant Drive – Julia Tutwiler Hall. It wouldn’t be until August of 2012 that she truly moved out of Tut, having spent over a decade in the residence hall.

No, it didn’t take her that long to finish undergrad – she finished in four, graduating with her bachelor’s in human development and family studies in May 2003. But the building holds many memories for her and the family she built there.

The previous fall, their daughter Katie had been selected as UA’s homecoming queen. Katie was also the vice president for community service for Kappa Delta, and the Buhais wanted to allow future homecoming queens the opportunity to support a philanthropy project of their choice. This year, McLean Moore was the first homecoming queen who had the opportunity to use the fund, and she selected Al’s Pals to receive the donation!

Meet the New VPSL!

Dr. Hood and his wife, TiffaniAbout a month ago, President Bell asked Dr. Steven Hood to step into the Division of Student Life’s top leadership role as interim vice president. Dr. Hood is no stranger to the division – he’s been around for more than a decade, and he’s excited to continue the progress that’s been made in recent years. His colleagues in the division already know that in addition to innovative solutions to our problems, he’s always ready with a dad joke to brighten our day, but we wanted to take some time to properly introduce him to the rest of the campus community!

Memories From Tutwiler: A Collection

The current Tutwiler was built in the year 1968 and has been serving women at UA for 54 years. To make way for a larger and more contemporary residence hall, it is scheduled for demolition on July 4, 2022. As a campus community, we commemorate the legacy of the historic building while awaiting the new and improved Tutwiler. To celebrate both events, we will be periodically featuring stories from past and current residents of Tutwiler Hall. Today’s memories include excerpts submitted from women across the generations of Tutwiler Hall – and one past resident who traveled across the globe to live at Tutwiler!

The driver asked about my story during our trip together. Not only did he help me bring my suitcases up, but he stayed to help me move in. While other residents had family and friends as a support, I was running around the building with a cab driver. What a great man ensuring I had a wonderful school start.”

UA Students Present White Paper at National Conference

The Division of Student Life at The University of Alabama works diligently to foster the health and wellness of students at the Capstone. Student Life also strives to provide students with opportunities to develop professionally, socially, and academically. One of the many ways both of these goals are served is the Student Advisory Council on Wellness.

Purpose of the Advisory Council

The Student Advisory Council on Wellness works alongside Dr. Ruperto “Toti” Perez, the Associate Vice President of Health and Well-Being at UA. These students meet each week and advise Dr. Perez on the needs of students they see in their respective areas of campus, and they work together to create positive social change in overall wellness on campus. Not only that, but they also publish an annual white paper that is presented
