2023 Exemplo Awards Ceremony

Student Engagement within Student Life comprises five of the Division’s departments: the Center for Service and Leadership (CSL), The University of Alabama Student Center (The Stu), Student Involvement, Student Governance and Citizenship and University Programs (UP). Together, these departments share a mission of maintaining an environment at the Capstone that supports the growth and development of students through active participation in experiential learning opportunities. Each year they host the Exemplo Capstone Awards (formerly Service and Leadership Awards) to honor individual students, student organizations and even full-time staff members who “serve compassionately, engage masterfully and live boldly.” This year’s event was held on April 11 at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center and celebrated the achievements and contributions of many in our campus community.
The Department of Veteran and Military Affairs (VMA) works hard every year to facilitate programs and services to service members, student veterans, dependents and survivors in order to make college life easier for them all around. The Military Friendly® Company has recognized The University of Alabama as military friendly since 2012; and in recent years, the Capstone has continuously ranked among the top ten. This year, VMA and Student Life are incredibly proud to announce that UA has been designated a top five Military Friendly® school!
For more than 20 years, The University of Alabama has commended outstanding faculty and staff members for their exceptional commitment, innovation or creativity in their roles through the Sam S. May Commitment to Service Award. This award honors the late Sam May, a custodian in the chemistry department who dutifully served the University for 30 years. Recipients of this award demonstrate exemplary characteristics and help make the Capstone a legendary place to work.
