Alma Mater: The University of Alabama (bachelor’s and master’s degrees)
I came to UA because… of the Million Dollar Band. I played trombone for my high school and aspired to join the college band. Through that experience, I was immersed in the UA culture and tradition. It was an awesome college experience to feel connected to the university community by participating in the homecoming events and football games.
Being a part of the UA as a faculty member is an honor because it is my alma mater. I’m now part of the same program that I received such a quality educational experience and I am elated to pass it on to the upcoming generations of social workers.
When I’m on campus, I… love exploring the campus! It is familiar to my experience as a student but it has progressed so much. I truly am appreciative of the beautiful landscapes and structures surrounding this vast campus. The other day I rode the Crimson Ride for the first time. Simple things like that still impress me and affirm my decision to be an employee here. I’m impressed with the wealth of resources available to students and faculty.
During my time at UA, I’m most proud of… being part of the School of Social Work. It’s truly a quality program for students. BestColleges.com ranked the online master’s program among the top ten nationally. It’s an exciting time to be a part of the evolution of the program to train future professionals who will impact their communities by being a voice for social justice, improving the well-being of systems, and alleviating adverse social conditions.
The one UA experience I will always remember will be… the warmth and support I received when joining the School of Social Work as a faculty member. On my first day, the dean left flowers and a welcome note on my desk, which reflected the supportive and encouraging environment. Everyone is a valued member of the team in this program. I have a wonderful supervisor who models leadership and encourages professional growth and development. Just being a part of such a positive team has left such an impression on me as we work together to face the challenges of this experience.
