Message from Dr. Pope | Nov. 8, 2021

Dear Students,

We were incredibly saddened this weekend to learn that a member of our UA student community, Garrett Walker, is missing. The safety and security of all our students is our priority, and our UAPD officers have been tirelessly at work in collaboration with the Tuscaloosa Police Department and other community officials to find Garrett. We remain hopeful he will be found in good health very soon. If you have any information that may be helpful in this search, please call UAPD at 205-348-5454.

I recognize this can be a difficult and uncertain time for our UA community. If you find yourself in need of support, I encourage you to connect with the University Counseling Center. Call 205-348-3863 to speak with a counselor. Our Student Care and Well-Being office is also here to support you; contact them at 205-348-2461. The staff members in these offices are passionate about helping you, so do not hesitate to reach out to them.

It is my privilege to serve you. Especially during this time, you are on my mind and in my heart. Please know that we are here for you and want to support you however we can.

Sincerely,

Myron L. Pope, Ed.D.

Vice President for Student Life
