2022 Student Life Award Winners

The Division of Student Life recently recognized exceptional staff members with annual awards. We are pleased to share with you the award recipients for 2021-2022.

     

John L. “Jack” Baier Award recipient:
Dana Williams

The Baier Award is presented to Student Life outstanding managerial and administrative employees whose service to all our constituents is of an exceptional nature. Dana was nominated due to her passionate drive in supporting students through her creative and strategic problem solving with the Student Care and Wellbeing team. She is know for her selflessness, dedication to her work and her genuine care for UA students and their success.

Harry J. Knopke Award recipient:
Russ Lamoureux

The Knopke Award is presented to Student Life outstanding office, technical, and clerical employees (formerly non-exempt employees) whose service to all our constituents is of an exceptional nature. Russ supports the University Programs team with honor and compassion, driving a welcoming culture to all. He is organized, professional and willing to help however he can, including moving heavy objects around the Student Center.       

     

Molly Lawrence Award recipient:
Mary Lowrey

The Lawrence Award is presented to individuals or teams within the Division of Student Life who have demonstrated outstanding internal collaboration and whose service to the University, Student Life, and our students is of an exceptional nature. Renowned for her exceptional hard work and great attitude during her seven years at UA, Mary has been instrumental in developing partnerships to facilitate the Capstone Character workshops which work with at-risk students to reflect on their actions and grow from them.

Sybil R. Todd Award recipient:
Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA)

The Todd Award is presented to individuals or organizations outside of the Division of Student Life who have demonstrated excellence in partnership and whose service to all our constituents is of an exceptional nature. The BFSA has served as a long-time partner to the division to enhance the student experience on campus for all through fundraising, scholarship, planning and hosting events.

     

Outstanding Student Volunteer Award recipient:
Hannah Menard

This award is given to Student Life undergraduate and graduate student(s) whose service to all our constituents is of an exceptional nature. Hannah volunteers with Center for Service and Leadership and continually impresses with her humility and helpful attitude, going above her role as assistant team lead and managing social media to increase volunteers for CSL programs.

Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient:
Brekeese Pierce

This award is given to Student Life undergraduate and graduate student(s) whose service to all our constituents is of an exceptional nature. Brekeese shows willingness and positivity in his roles with both University Programs and First Year Experience. Through his leadership and ethic of care, he has proven forward-thinking on opportunities and issues on diversity, equity and inclusion and works to the betterment of his community.

     

Outstanding Graduate Student Award recipient:
Christina Scott and Michael Collins

This award is given to Student Life undergraduate and graduate student(s) whose service to all our constituents is of an exceptional nature. Christina and Michael work in close collaboration to support students as community directors in Housing and Residential Communities (HRC). Outside of their responsibilities, they have shown their dedication through their involvement in many committees and volunteering with additional campus initiatives and organizations. They also nominated each other for this award!

Penny Allen Award recipient:
Kristen Dubose

The Penny Allen Award is given to one faculty or staff member at UA who reflects Professor Emeritus Sara B. Penny Allen’s selfless service, unfailing commitment, leadership and contributions to student life at UA. Kristen works tirelessly to ensure students in crisis receive the services they need, working with the campus food pantry to decrease food insecurity on campus and providing genuine care for all. She is additionally involved with student organizations to support students’ holistic wellbeing and advocate for an inclusive campus. 

     

Mission Excellence Award recipient:
Hillary Hardie

The Division of Student Life Mission Excellence Award recognizes those staff who embody and exemplify the mission of maximizing student’s learning experiences through the focus of the strategic priorities. Hillary supports students’ holistic health and wellbeing by establishing a satellite Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services office at Shelton State so students have support for their recovery while potentially working to return to UA. On campus, she advances knowledge on recovery through the Recovery Ally Training and works to assess how to better support a sense of belonging for all students, regardless of their circumstance or story.
