Employee Appreciation Day 2023

Divisional Awards Presentation and Breakfast (Student Center Ballroom)

Join the Recognition and Appreciation Committee to kick off Employee Appreciation Day! We will provide breakfast from Cracker Barrel for attendees, recognize our staff nominees and present Student Life Awards.

10-11 a.m.

Wellness Walk (Meet at the fountain between the Student Center and Student Services; Walk led on campus)

Led by Dr. Delynne Willcox, join this Wellness Walk that creates space to be reflective and introspective to begin the day. If there is rain on May 19, this will meet in Student Center Room 3107. This will be a leisurely walk, but bring comfortable shoes!

10 - 11 a.m.

Virtual Trivia (Online)

Can’t leave the office for festivities? Whether you are entering by yourself or even as a team, test your knowledge by joining Virtual Trivia. With a Kahoot flair, there will be 3 rounds of 15-minute trivia each themed very differently. The point value for each round will double and even triple! Towards the end of the 3^rd round, the top three teams and/or person who has the most points will progress to the finals round, which we are calling Tide or Nothing (a play on all or nothing).

Themes will include: General Knowledge, UA/Division of Student Life History, Rolling through the Decades, TV and Movie, and Music

Rules

1.  Please do not use anything besides your own knowledge to answer the questions (no Google, other search engines, books, phone a friend, etc.)
2. If you are entering as a team with more than one person, we ask that you all be under one Zoom screen with your team name as the title.
3. If you have any questions, you can ask them through the Zoom Chat function.

Cornhole Tournament (Student Center Lawn)

Please discuss with your supervisor and department head prior to signing up to ensure office responsibilities are covered in case of conflicts. Please note, while this tournament will try to accommodate all teams that sign up, there may be limited spots available based on interest. We will be in touch with all teams that register very soon after the registration window closes. If there is rain on May 19, this will be held in the Heritage Room. Free Yoga Class (UREC Student Recreation Center – Miles Studio)

Staff of all experience levels can enjoy this class. Bring your yoga mat if you have one. No registration required, but the class will fill up so get there early!

Support Local: Take a friend to lunch!

The R&A Committee is happy to invite our SL staff to take a friend to lunch, invite a new staff member to dine, reconnect with someone you’ve lost touch with or dine together as a department! We encourage you all to take some informal time with your colleagues to continue developing strong relationships and celebrate a great year!

Student Life Small Business Showcase (Student Center: Room 3108)

We are excited to highlight our staff for the great work inside and outside of Student Life! This event will be a tabling event that SL staff can sign up to have a table that showcases any small business or side hustle. This is a showcase and not a fair, so there are no physical sales allowed to occur – only promotion. We hope that this event increases your brand awareness and attracts new customers within Student Life! Lunch will be provided to those tabling at the event. Please be sure to discuss with your supervisor and department head prior to signing up to ensure office responsibilities are covered in case of conflicts. This will be a drop-in event for any staff interested in learning more about some small businesses owned and operated by your colleagues. Student Life Pool Party (UA Outdoor Pool Complex)

Looking for a way to cool down in the hot Alabama summer? Join us at the pool! This family friendly event will be open for all SL staff. No registration or membership required; just come ready for some sun! Check in at the front desk of the Outdoor Pool for access! And no. . . you cannot drop your children off at the family friendly pool party to attend the SL Happy Hour. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

5-7 p.m.

Student Life Social Hour / Mingle (Off Campus: The Venue)

Not interested in the pool party? Join SL for a happy hour event off campus. This Social Hour will be hosted at The Venue and is open to all SL staff, family, friends, pets and anyone else that wants to come! Drinks are available to attendees 21 and older.
