Hometown: Cottage Grove, Alabama
Job Title: Executive Director of the Career Center
Alma Mater: The University of Alabama
When I’m on campus, I… engage with as many students as I possibly can. Because I worked in corporate America for so long, I love being able to share with the students my first-hand experience of how to interview effectively. I also like to sit in on programs that people on my team are conducting. I recently became involved with Lean on Alabama which promotes women leveraging each other’s experiences across all possible boundaries. Since I am new to the campus, I have not had the chance to get involved in a lot of things on campus, but am looking forward to connecting with my sorority, AKA.
I came to UA because… I really love being on a college campus. I worked in corporate America my entire career and I was always so incredibly impressed by the population of students coming out of college and entering the workforce. Therefore, when I was approached about this job, my previous experience with college students coupled with my love for Alabama made for an easy choice.
During my time at UA, I’m most proud of… conducting a productive strategic planning session. I think it is important for our team to understand the importance of strategy so we all understand how we fit into the big picture. I am most proud of that because it’s something the team appreciated.
My most memorable moment at UA has been… getting to interact with the students. Meeting students on the quad, having a conversation with them, telling them who I am and what I do and then having them reach out to me is very fulfilling. I love setting up appointments and talking with them about what they want to be doing in terms of their career. Even though I’m sure that I played only a small role in student success, seeing each student evolve is a good moment for me.
My favorite thing to do on campus is… tailgate and attend the football games. On Saturdays, no one cares about any of the differences between one another or what political party you support, we are all just one family. I just love that about Alabama.
