Charge

  • Explore and recommend approaches (strategies, practices, policies) to change the culture among UA students to adopt healthier attitudes and practices regarding nutrition

Strategies

  • Providing leadership in adopting best practices to encourage and support healthy eating
  • Develop and provide educational opportunities on healthy eating
  • Develop a process for creating and updating student-learning outcomes related to nutrition
  • Promoting understanding and collaboration across the Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Financial Affairs divisions to engage students in critical thinking regarding student health and well-being as it relates to nutrition
  • Providing a mechanism for recommendations from a diverse group of faculty and staff to the Vice Presidents of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

Current actions of the team

  • Partnered with Bama Dining to have "Take the Challenge: Eat for Your Health" night at Lakeside dining hall. On this night over 250 students took the challenge to "Eat for their Health" with the assistance of UA nutrition students.
  • Continue to encourage the CW to write nutrition-related articles.

Past accomplishments of the team

  • Worked with members from Auxiliary Services to encourage having healthier items in the vending machines. On UA's campus you will now find healthier option labels in our vending machines that indentify foods with less than 200 calories, 7 grams of fat, 30 grams of carbohydrate, and 360mg of sodium.
  • Included more nutrition programs into Week of Welcome
