What is Project Health?

 

A student organization whose purpose is to provide students with peer support, education and awareness on issues that are considered to be national college health concerns, serving as a liaison between the Student Health Center and The University of Alabama.  Our goal is to encourage students to consider and adopt a healthy lifestyle and healthy decision-making while in college.  See the website (www.projecthealth.ua.edu) for more information

What is required for a student to be involved in the Project Health, Peer Education Program?

  • Interest in student health and wellbeing
  • Desire to learn how to be a student health advocate and commitment to leadership

What is the course for becoming a Certified Peer Educator?
      • CHS 200 (Health and Wellness Advocacy) is a 3 hour credit course offered in spring, interim and 2nd session summer school, that prepares students for Certification as a Peer Educator
      • The Certification is through the Bacchus/Gamma Peer Education network.
How can a student organization become involved?
      • Assist with wellness and health education events throughout the year, such as the Student Health Fair, Awareness Week events related to Alcohol, Stress, Eating Disorders, Safe Spring Break, Nutrition and Weight Management, Healthy Relationships, Tobacco Free Challenge, etc
      • Help  with sponsorship of promotion activities related to the health topics
      • Assist with distribution of health education flyers, posters, reminders
What opportunities are there for other students who may want to volunteer?

What is AlcoholEdu?

 

AlcoholEdu is a population level, online alcohol education course adopted by more than 500 colleges and universities across the U.S.  The course challenges students’ expectations about alcohol while enabling them to make healthier and safer decisions.   All freshmen students (those with fewer than 24 hours college credit) are required to complete the course.  For more information, go to www.alcoholedu.ua.edu.

What is MentalHealthEdu?

 

MentalHealthEdu is an online educational course that explores signs that are commonly exhibited by students in distress and offers suggestions on how to connect those students with appropriate campus resources. The course takes approximately 30 minutes and is presented in three interactive modules.  It is being offered to faculty, staff and student employees as part of our prevention education initiatives.  For more information, go towww.mentalhealthedu.ua.edu.
