Faculty and Staff have a wide range of opportunities to get involved at the Capstone. A few of those activities and commitments include Strategic Health Teams, the Professional Staff Assembly and University Wide Committees.
Strategic Health Teams
Strategic Health Teams target several health areas to better the wellbeing of the student population at UA. These teams include: Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Healthy Relationships/Sexual Health, Nutrition, Eating Disorders, Financial Health and Tobacco Education. A team of diverse faculty and staff for each issue is formed to meet monthly during the academic year to strategize prevention and intervention plans.
Professional Staff Assembly
The Professional Staff Assembly (PSA) is comprised of seven committees that address the needs and concerns of professional staff. Such concerns include health care coverage, parking arrangements, child care possibilities, benefits tailoring and more. Each representative is elected to serve a two-year term on a committee.
Office, Clerical and Technical Staff Assembly
The Office, Clerical and Technical Staff Assemply (OCTSA) was formed to represent the Office, Clerical and Technical employees of The University of Alabama, and to function as an advisory and policy referral organization to the administration and the staff employees of the University. Thre are five committes that work with issues such as Professional Development, Service and Outreach, Staff Life, Communications and Public Relations and Ad Hoc (surveys/elections). Each representative is elected to serve at 2-year term on the assembly.
University Wide Committees
Faculty and staff are appointed to a variety of University Wide Committees. Committee participation by faculty and staff members is vital to the life of our institution. Generally, an appointment to a standing committee is a three-year commitment with a few exceptions. Each year, a survey is conducted in the fall to determine who is interested in volunteering for a University Wide Committee during the following academic year. Student Affairs staff members are encouraged to participate in a committee that fits their interests. An email will be sent out each year with the survey for interested staff members to take.
